Official guidance on animal medicine records
The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) guidance on GOV.UK states that medicine records for food-producing animals must be kept for at least five years. Records must be durable, permanent and available for inspection on request by a duly authorised person.
Where a vet administers a veterinary medicine to a food-producing animal, they must either enter the required information in the keeper’s records or provide it in writing for the keeper to enter.
The regulations specify what records must be kept, rather than requiring a particular recording system. Keepers should check the current official requirements and ensure their completed records contain the required information.
