Sheep & Goat Holding / Flock Register – A4, 32 Pages (S004)
Keep sheep and goat movement records together in one practical on-farm book. The S004 Holding / Flock Register combines movement and flock records, annual flock details and replacement tag records, making it easier to keep your information organised and refer back to previous entries.
Three record sections in one book
- Movement and flock records: record movement dates, running totals, numbers of animals moved, identification details, transporter details, holding details and comments.
- Annual flock details: note the lambing period, number of lambs reared and female sheep under 12 months old that have lambed.
- Replacement tag records: record replacement dates, numbers of replacements, replacement tag details, previous or surviving tag details where known, and comments.
Made for everyday farm record-keeping
After a movement or tag replacement, bring the details together in your register so they are ready to find when you next need them. The A4 format provides room for entries, while thicker 100gsm white paper helps reduce show-through.

Completing a sheep holding register: DEFRA guidance for England
DEFRA's guidance applies to England. Sheep and goat keepers must keep a holding register for each holding, including when animals are kept as pets or only temporarily. The following is a summary of the guidance, not a statement that this book alone covers every record-keeping requirement.
- What to record: first tagging of lambs and kids, replacement tags, movements on and off the holding, deaths on the holding and the total number of sheep and goats at the end of each year for the annual inventory.
- First tagging: record the tagging date, official identification number (or flock or herd mark for slaughter tags), year of birth, and breed and genotype if known, within 36 hours of tagging.
- Replacement tags: record the replacement date, new official identification number and previous number if known, within 36 hours. DEFRA gives separate exceptions for replica tags and animals first tagged before 2010.
- Movements onto the holding: normally record the movement date, animal identification details, number of animals moved and the county parish holding (CPH) number of the holding they came from, within 36 hours.
- Movements off the holding: normally record the movement date, animal identification details, number of animals moved, destination CPH number, haulier's name and vehicle registration, within 36 hours.
- Deaths: record the date of death and the animal's official identification number within 36 hours of discovering the death.
- Keeping your records: retain the holding register for 3 years after the last animal dies or leaves the holding, and make it available when requested by the relevant authorities.
Different recording arrangements or exemptions can apply to some movements, including movements involving approved electronic identification scanning centres, certain land sharing a CPH number and qualifying frequent moves to neighbouring land. Consult the full guidance for these details. Keep any additional records needed to include all required information; completing a holding register does not replace separate movement-reporting duties.
